Shrimatis was officially opened on 30th June 1970 by the late Mr. Arunbhai Dhupelia, whose vision was to create South Africa’s most elegant saree store. Arunbhai had the foresight for high fashion and would introduce new designs and trends 2 to 3 years in advance in preparation for the forth coming seasonal fashion releases. For the last 4 decades, Shrimatis has remained committed to that vision of providing exclusive, top quality Sarees and Punjabees to the Indian community in South Africa.
We are a boutique company providing high-end eastern fashion wear, ranging from Sarees to Punjabees and Kurtis, for all occasions, from weddings through to casual wear. Our passion for providing the best range to suit our customers’ needs has made Shrimatis a household name in Durban as well as a strong clientele across South Africa. We continue to serve our customers with pride.
After committing his entire career at Shrimatis since its inception, Mr. Jamnadas (Jay) Bhana took over the business in 2011, to continue its rich legacy. He has always been very hands on and involved in the entire purchasing experience with every one of his customers. With the support of his wife and the rest of his family, Shrimatis continues to carry the flag of exclusivity and quality.
Since 2011, the store has moved from the Durban City Centre (formerly in Prince Edward Street) to Reservoir Hills, Durban.
Our exclusive range is sourced directly from top quality manufacturers from various parts of India, such as: Varanasi, Bangalore, Chennai, Calcutta, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat and Mumbai.
